Murang’a county Senator Irungu Kang’ata has revealed that even if the Building Bridges Initiative report steering committee appeals the decision of the High Court, little might happen.
According to the former majority whip in the Senate, the High Court issued a very detailed judgement and it is likely that the Court of Appeal will overturn the judgement in its entirety.
He has noted that if the Court of Appeal overturns the judgement, BBI has suffered one of the most powerful wounds after yesterday’s ruling.
He has however noted that some aspects of the report could be legislated and the amount that would be used to hold a referendum be used to buy vaccines in the country.
“Next step?1.Drop appeal- high court judgement was too comprehensive to be wholesomely overturned.Even if overturned, BBi morality is fatally wounded.2.Legislate few good things in BBi,eg Ward fund/ more monies to counties.3.Use referendum billions for vaccines and mass testing,”Irungu Kang’ata.
This follows the court ruling that the Building Bridges Initiative report was unconstitutional and hence overturned the whole process of trying to hold a constitutional reform in the country.
