Central Organization of Trade Union Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been re-elected unopposed for a fifth term by trade union representatives.
Mr Francis Atwoli re election will see him serve as the Secretary General for another 5 year term until 2025 where another election is held.
Francis Atwoli was re-elected in an exercise held by delegates at Tom Mboya Labour college, Kisumu.
Mr Atwoli has been at the helm of COTU- Kenya as the secretary general since 2001, after he took over from the late Joseph Mugalla, is the longest serving secretary general of this trade union. This will be his Atwoli’s fifth term.
Thirty three other officials of the union elected unchallenged.
Taking to his twitter account in the morning, the always vibrant and charismatic general thanked all the workers in Kenya for reelecting him unopposed and promised to lead the union with much more dedication.
“I want to THANK ALL KENYAN WORKERS for RE-ELECTING me UNOPPOSED, through their registered Trade Union Representatives, as the Secretary General of @COTU_K. I promise to service you with all my mighty and strength and not betray the trust you have bestowed in me.”
The other person who had earlier shown interest to lead the union of the workers is the Kenya National Union of Nurses secretary general Mr Seth Panyako who has been accusing Mr Atwoli of bulldozing others to remain in power at COTU.
